Morocco plans to implement several major projects in the building and public works (BTP) sector by 2030, which require the use of heavy machinery. Here is a non-exhaustive list of these projects:
- Sports infrastructure for the 2030 World CupWith a view to participating in the organization of the 2030 World Cup in cooperation with Spain and Portugal, Morocco plans to build and renovate stadiums and develop associated infrastructure.
- Expansion of the high-speed rail network: Studies are currently underway to extend the high-speed rail line from Kenitra to Marrakech, then widen the line to reach Agadir.
- Develop airport infrastructure:There are plans to modernize and expand airport facilities, notably Tangier Airport, to keep pace with the growth in air traffic.
- Improve the road network: Morocco continues to invest in the expansion and modernization of the road network in order to improve mobility and strengthen trade throughout the country.
- Develop logistics zones: The creation of logistics zones, like the one planned south of Ait Melloul, aims to strengthen storage and distribution capacities, which support trade and industry.
- Infrastructure projects in Casablanca: The city of Casablanca is experiencing unprecedented development of infrastructure, including public transport, green spaces and sports facilities, as part of an ambitious regional development program which aims to make Casablanca a major international hub.
- Construction of the port of Nador in the Western Mediterranean: This deep-water port is a strategic project for Morocco, aiming to be a regional and international center, and includes logistics and industrial zones. The project requires significant offshore and onshore infrastructure works using heavy equipment.
- Water Dam Program: Morocco plans to build around thirty dams by 2030 as part of its water resources management strategy. Dam projects, like that of Kadoussa in Errachidia, require heavy equipment for earthworks and pouring concrete.
- Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City Project: This huge industrial and technological zone aims to attract Chinese and international companies to a futuristic city, which includes industrial, residential and commercial infrastructure. The work requires a significant mobilization of heavy equipment for the construction of roads, buildings and industrial zones.
- Jorf Lasfar RefineryA large project to build a new oil refinery in Jorf Lasfar, which aims to increase Morocco's capacity to refine oil and strengthen its energy independence. The project will require the use of heavy equipment to build complex industrial infrastructure.
- Water desalination plant project in Casablanca: This project aims to improve the supply of drinking water in Casablanca and its surroundings. Construction work requires heavy equipment for excavation and installation of infrastructure.
- Construction of the highway between Agadir and Dakhla: This project aims to connect the south of Morocco to the city of Dakhla via a new highway. Construction work requires heavy equipment for earthworks and the construction of road infrastructure.
- Development of Oued Bouregreg (Phase 3): This project includes the development of residential, commercial and tourist areas, and requires the use of heavy machinery to build infrastructure. The third phase focuses on the development of residential areas and tourist infrastructure.
These major projects are key indicators of the dynamism of the building and public works sector in Morocco, because they require the use of heavy equipment to meet technical and logistical requirements. These projects will also contribute to the economic and infrastructural development of the country by 2030.
